The first report of a new policy series Building Momentum from the World Cancer Research Fund International was published in June. The series aims to provide guidance for policymakers on how to overcome common barriers and challenges in the nutrition policy process; ultimately helping to implement more evidence-informed nutrition policy to tackle the growing burden of diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer.
This first report in the series provides advice to policymakers about designing and implementing a sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) tax. It provides general guidance on how to design a robust SSB tax and includes case studies and an evidence table of the effects on SSB taxes. Future reports will cover front-of-pack nutrition labels and marketing of unhealthy food and drink to children.
